Federal show of force in Chicago escalates.

Per WBEZ Chicago, federal immigration enforcement raids have expanded and moved into neighborhoods not previously targeted. This past week, agents have:

  • Arrested a man outside a family health center with his pregnant partner, smashing his car window in the process.
  • Teargassed neighbors on a residential street while abducting construction workers from a house.
  • Grabbed an Amazon delivery worker with a pending asylum case from his car while he was working.

National Guard deployment to Chicago remains blocked pending decision by the Supreme Court. WBEZ

Senior border patrol official Gregory Bovino captured throwing tear gas at a large group of Chicago residents. NYT

On Canal Street in Manhattan, Federal agents attempting a raid in an area famous for street vendors were confronted with angry New Yorkers who surrounded them and attempted to block them and drive them off. AP

A 24-year-old Honduran man died after being hit by a car while fleeing ICE agents in Virginia. Guardian

In California, federal officers shot Carlitos Ricardo Parias who is alleged to have rammed their car attempting to evade arrest during a traffic stop. Parias is a popular TikTok livestreamer who has been posting videos of ICE operations. He was shot in the elbow and is hospitalized. A deputy US Marshal was hit in the hand with a ricochet bullet. Detentions and deportations

After mistakenly deporting him to El Salvador and being ordered by the Supreme Court to facilitate his return, the US government says it now plans to deport Kilmar Abrego Garcia to Liberia. AP

ICE has detained British commentator and Sami Hamdi after DHS revoked his Visa apparently for speech critical of the Israeli government. NYT

A Cuban man deported to Africa and currently in a maximum-security prison is on hunger strike, according to his lawyer. AP
