Chicago remains the "epicenter of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown."
- More than 1,500 people have been arrested in Chicago since the beginning of the crackdown in September, according to DHS. CBS
- A TV producer commuting to work was pushed to the ground, handcuffed, and put into a van. DHS claimed without evidence she had thrown an object at a patrol car. She was released later with no charges. Guardian
- Border Patrol agents engaged in a high-speed chase during an enforcement operation. The driver, suspected of being in the country illegally, allegedly rammed into the Border Patrol vehicle before fleeing. DHS tear gassed the crowd that had gathered during the arrest. AP
Chicagoans continue to resist.
- Protests have continued at the ICE facility in Broadview. Several have arrested in the past week for misdemeanors after clashes with police. Guardian

Judges attempt to rein in Feds.
- After a previous order attempting to restrain federal officers from using excessive force that has been well-documented, a US judge in Chicago ordered federal officers to wear body cameras during immigration crackdown activities. Reuters
- County judge in Illinois orders ICE to stop arresting people at courthouses. DHS and ICE have begun arresting immigrants who show up for court proceedings, leading many to face the difficult decision of risking a warrant for arrest or detainment by ICE. AP
- Trump's National Guard deployment to Illinois remains blocked. The Seventh Circuit appeals panel rejected the government's request to overturn the block. The Administration has asked the US supreme court to overturn and permit the deployment. Guardian

Meanwhile in Portland...
- The inflatable frog costume has become an iconic symbol of Portland's recent approach to resisting ICE. Protesters at the ICE facility and elsewhere have donned inflatable costumes and the optics of peaceful, whimsical mockery has created a vivid opposing image to the depiction of Portland as "war zone" that the Trump Administration has been trying to fabricate. - The 9th Circuit appeals court overturned a restraining order that was preventing the Trump Administration from deploying the National Guard to Portland. This has been challenged by the State of Oregon and it is unclear what this ruling will mean in the short-term. NPR
Detentions and deportations
Man wrongfully imprisoned for 40 years arrested by ICE as soon as he was released from prison. The ICE arrest is based on a deportation order tied to his conviction that has now been overturned. Guardian
The father of a US Marine has been detained and deported after visiting family at Camp Pendleton in California. AP
Queer and trans immigrants claim they were sexually harassed, abused, and forced into labor in Louisiana ICE processing facility. Guardian
As the US continues the practice of third-country deportations for immigrants who cannot legally be returned to their home countries due to credible fear of torture, a lawyer representing immigrants has filed suit against the Ghanan government alleging the agreement to take these non-Ghanan immigrants from the US is illegal. Legislative changes and challenges
Trump Administration to pay some ICE and TSA employees during the shutdown, possibly violating the law requiring federal funds to be used only as congress has directed and approved. NYT
LA County declares emergency over immigration raids. This move will allow the Board of Supervisors to allocate state money for legal aid, rent relief, and other services to immigrants in the community. AP
